Let’s face it, good brows are all the rage and we have all watched a million makeup tutorials on how to perfectly pencil them in. But, what if there was a way to just wake up and be confident with your brows every day WITHOUT the over-drawn look? Luckily there is, and it’s a wonderful procedure called Microblading.

I’m sure you’ve heard of it by now, almost every salon in the area has been offering this newest, semi-permanent way to create perfectly shaped, thick brows. And yes, I said semi-permanent but don’t fret, if you take care of them the first time, they can last you a good two years before needing a re-do!

Microblading is not a procedure to just trust anyone with. Alicia has seen many botched procedures in her career; cheaper is NOT always the way to go. Since Microblading involves scalpels, ink and incisions to your face, it only makes sense to research a reputable esthetician, such as Alicia, to give you your dream brows.

Allow me to give you some insight to the art of this procedure:

  • This semi-permanent brow enhancing method was created by a Serbian make-up artist by the name of Branko Babic. His PhiBrows method seems to be one that’s quite well-established in Europe, making its way to the United States where many artists, have certified themselves in this technique.
  • His method is based on an exact measurement of your natural brows, and then finding the golden ratio aka perfect fit for your face. The technique also features a hyper-realistic way to draw in individual brow hairs for an extremely natural result.
  • PhiBrows (and most other microblading techniques) are created using a tiny scalpel with multiple blades, which are then dipped into pigment before making the individual, tiny cuts into the eyebrows.
  • The pigment isn’t applied as deep into the skin as with a conventional tattoo, so this method is deemed semi-permanent. Meaning: It should last around two years, depending on skin type and how it was applied.

Remember, your treatment should always include a follow-up appointment to correct and intensify your brows, about 4-6 weeks after the first one. The first Microblading session will probably take around 1.5 to 2 hours. First, your esthetician will measure and draw on your brows to ensure perfect placement before starting the procedure. Take your time to look in the mirror and make sure you are okay with the shape before giving the green light to get started. A topical numbing cream will then be applied to the area so the pain will not be near as intense. If you’re feeling tough, you can always opt out…but I don’t suggest it!

Immediately after the procedure, you may look in the mirror and feel like a clown; the color will be darker than you imagined, and it will not be fun leaving with raw-feeling brows, but I promise it does not last! Most of the color is due to the layer of pigment that is lying on the skin, and will come off once the healing process starts.

24 hours post-microblading, you will probably already see the individual hairs, and still be pretty freaked out by the intense color. It takes about a week of healing time for your brows to scab slightly. The color decreases in intensity, so you won’t feel like a total crazy person.

After four weeks, it will be time for your touch-up session. The time will be taken to fill in any missing hair strokes, and/or add pigment that may have “fell off” during healing the first time. The final result is worth a couple of weeks of questionable brows, by far!

If you want to weigh out your options, here are some pros and cons of the Microblading procedure:

PROS:

  • You WILL love the shape, and plucking them will be a breeze since you’re already starting with a perfect template.
  • You won’t need ANY brow make-up anymore, for at least two years until the pigment starts to gradually fade.
  • Even without any other make-up, you will still look done up, after all, defined brows give your whole face more contrast.

CONS:

  • You need to know that your brows will be slightly swollen and tender and REALLY intensely pigmented for at least 5 to 7 days.
  • If you’re sensitive to pain, this isn’t going to be an easy run for you, but I always try to make the procedure less intense by constantly applying numbing cream to the area.

If you are nervous to try Microblading, trust me, it’s normal. As long as you find someone you trust through extensive research, it will lessen the worry.
